any comments on the life of motor lubricating oil (engine oil) versus the use of 50/50% rapeseed/diesel fuel
eg polymerisation, increased viscosity of oil.

is the old 3000miles 6 month still a real limit irrespective of quality/type

effect of low sulphur fuels on the life of engine oil.
add 300mm of 2 stroke to a tankfull

5000 mile intervals for me, oil filter every other change, pela pump for painlessness, kept same habit when for a while I used 25% rapeseed.

I used to use up to 100% veg oil - still just did annual oil change

You could sell the old oil as salad dressing...just add vinegar....

I heard that the Americans
Filter there old engine oil
Then put it in the fuel tank with a mix of diesel
Apparently that is common practise across the pond
Did it once with a old landy I had
But that had everything in the tank I could find at the time ran ok on anything that did
Veg new and old , red , fuel oil , engine oil , petrol diesel mix

I've heard of that Helen, but I never had any problems over thousands of miles. I suspect it's one of those things that could happen, but probably won't, unless the rings and bores are already knackered

the only problem reported was lubricating oil contamination (viscosity increase due to polymerization of polyunsaturated vegetable oils).
The lubricating oil had to be changed every 4,000 4,500 miles

Previously I seen another paper with similar info reffering to rapeseed/diesel mixes and not the old general stuff as bellow

Semi Refined rapeseed Oil (SRO) proved to be a suitable diesel fuel extender, at inclusion rates up to 25 %, when used with direct injection combustion systems (viz. tractor type engines). Power output (at 540 rev/min at the power take off shaft) was reduced by c. 0.06% for every 1% increase in SRO inclusion rate, and brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) increased by c. 0.14% per 1% increase in SRO inclusion rate (viz. a 25% SRO/diesel blend had a 1.5% decrease in power and a 3.5% increase in BSFC compared with diesel). These values are in accordance with the lower energy density of rapeseed oil fuels compared with diesel. Chemical and viscosity analysis of engine lubrication oil (after c. 170 hours per fuel tested), including metal contamination as an indicator of engine wear occurring, showed that there was no measurable effect on engine lubricating oil due to SRO inclusion in diesel oil

In this study we will test multiple diesel fuel additives designed to replace lost lubricity.

a 2 stroke oil was deemed to be 7th in a list 0f 15 additives.



Any sensible relevant papers known of.

Still every six months for me plus usual checks every sunday, always done it this way with all my cars but..it still didn't stop the bongo dropping a valve on me
