Bongo Fury

Hi All

Bought a bongo after searching the net for a VW alternative. I like it a lot, nice to drive, smooth, love the auto box despite thinking i wouldn't. I sold my caravan because we never used the shower, sink, loo, etc we always founds that the site facilities were superior. For the same reason I have kept the standard 8 seats in the Bongo and have no plans to fit the usual camper bits. We have an excellent electric coolbox from Halfords, that was way bigger than the caravan fridge and we have a small suitcase gas burner from Boyes for a cups of tea. We generally eat out when on holidays.

Anyway, I have just bought in a sale a Propex 2000 to heat the Bongo when we are parked, or actual camping.
I thought that the Propex could be placed in a box under the rear seats. There is a space to vent to the left of the full size spare tyre (when looking from the rear). The heater is very low and it looks to be a good place to put it.
My question is would you agree?
I don't really want to take the rails out or the seats, theres no point.
what do you think?

Welcome to forum . I think you're right about the rear seat being a good location but I'm wondering where you are going to be able to keep the cylinder?

I would put it in the boot.
Just build one of these and put the propex in the cupboard.

Have been delayed in answering as my ipad refuses to let me log on. I've had to bring back to life my ancient dead battery frankenlaptop.

I will be building a cupboard, when it warms up a bit.

Did you remove the carpet or just cut through it? I have just bought quite a chunky 40mm hole saw. I think I might be taking all of the old/stained carpet up and replacing it with those interlocking workshop floor tiles. I did this with my caravan and it worked out ok, although I won't be using the same wood effect tiles, just plain gray ones, or maybe the blue ones, though I would like to see some blue ones first.

I'm not into the stripy lino flooring. Unless there is a more classy option. (no offense to stripy interiors)

With your iPad go into settings , Safari and clear Internet history / cookies etc

Seems to work for me after that

I've used them interlocking foam floor tiles in my caravan and landrovers work great don't they and comfy / warm to feet in morning

I just cut the very end of the rear carpet out, screwed two batons to the floor and fastened the kitchen to them

What size gas bottle do you use Winchman, and how high is it, or how high is the cupboard?

I got it in Grimsby from Magnum Motorhomes for £420. Not a massive sale but it won me over when I was hesitating. They were selling it on Ebay so I was quite surprised that it was round the corner from me, no post to pay.
I just looked, and the sale is now over.

It was designed to take the smallest Propane 6KG I think? but as I had a 907 spare its currently got that in it.
You have to tip the rear seat forward to cook, the bed wont fold flat so you have to use a combination of flat middle seat and the front seats.
I originally designed it so I could insure it as a camper but keep all 8 seats, the insurance came down from £1000 to £200.
The seat is all the way back so takes no leg room from the passengers, using a second hand sink and stove it cost about £150 including a matching table.
I did look at the idea of manufacturing them but its too specialised so wouldn't be worth it as most people want different conversions, whilst mine works to lower the insurance I feel its not the most practical and would rather have a side conversion, but would loose some seats.
A few other people have made similar ones as they also wanted a cheap removable conversion
