Good luck to anyone going, the Cowal peninsula is one of the best kept secrets in Caledonia. We sampled it about a third of the way through
THIS tour in 2013 and we'd happily go back, sadly I'm heading south this afternoon.
It's a bit of a challenge to get there but a lovely circular tour from the south would be as follows:
1. Ardrossan to Brodick, explore Arran.
2. Lochranza to Claonaig, explore Kintyre and grab some winter photos of Arran.
3. Tarbert to Portavadie, explore the Cowal peninsula and head around to the fabulous Tighnabruaich viewpoint.
4. Colintraive – Rhubodach, explore the Isle of Bute
5. Rothesay - Wemyss Bay and drift back home
On our tour above we didn't go through Otter Ferry as we took the other road to Tighnabruaich but it's a lovely part of the world.

Or even the Dunoon ferry from the Glasgow area is good, plenty of dolphins in the area if you're lucky
