Hi, has anyone with an lpg conversion had a towbar fitted after the conversion was done? Mine has the tank in the spare tyre space and I've been told that the tank will get in the way. Can anyone recommend a towbar that would fit please?

This shouldn't be an issue as many Bongos have a tow bar and a spare wheel.
I'm not sure the tank fouls the bar.
Edit: Might be worth a PM to New Forest Terrier as she has both.

I fitted a towbar before my conversion as retro-fitting would be very tricky. The only person I know of who wanted a towbar fitted afterwards had to have the tank removed and then repositioned further forward.
My recommendation for a good strong towbar is made by A1 Towing and I think the model is MA465. Used to be able to pick these up with electrics for under £100. I chose that model as it has big chunky plates that fit a long way down the chassis to spread the load and reduce 'bounce' when used with a bike rack etc. You can just make out the plate here:

Thanks for the replies, I've found a local lpg convertor who will fit a towbar for me, and if need be will move the tank too. I'll post when it's done to let people know if I had to move the tank or not. Cheers. N

I see you are in Newcastle. Bewick Mobility at Blaydon fitted my LPG and also do lots of conversions and tow bars on various vehicles, if you want a price ring and ask for Brian and say you were recommended by Stu on the Bongo forum he will know who you mean and look after you with costs.
I will arrange a local meet soon if you are interested.

That's where I'm going to take it Stu, you recommend them for something else I posted about a while back and they were very helpful, thanks. Yep, we're often out and about keeping our small children entertained at the weekend, there's a local meet up let me know and we'll come and say hello.

It can be done but a bit of engineering needs to be done to the mounting plates. I took mine to a friend who runs a small garage unit and supplied him with an A1 towbar kit. He did a bit of measuring up and then took the kit to a local engineering form. This lowered the cross bar to clear the tank. I then bought a kit to raise the tow-hook (the type of adjustable plate used on Landrovers etc) as it would have been too low to the ground. The end result means that I can tow a small boat or trailer but the alterations to the geometry of the towbar mounting plates, mean it would be unwise to tow a heavy caravan.

Have towed a heavy caravan for one season no problem

You can buy MA465 direct from A1 but it's much more expensive than other suppliers although there don't seem to be as many around as there used to be.
