another hot one

This morning on the way to work my temperature mason alarm went off, I looked down to see the gauge creeping up to the dreaded "H" mark.
As I was nearly there I carried on until I parked up at work, left the engine running etc
for some reason it has gotten hot, fans on but the bottom hose is dead cold.

the levels seem fine and the header tank fluid isn't mucky/rusty it has stayed the colour of the anti freeze from when the radiator was replaced about 6 months ago which makes me thing it's not a blockage.

I'm thinking that it might be a thermostat problem? Any ideas before I take it to the garage?

Or a blocked radiator, but you would perhaps expect that to happen more gradually then it seems to have appeared....maybe you hadn't spotted the temp. climbing previously until the alarm itself got the attention ?

the alarm is set pretty low, I can get it to go off just climbing a steep hill so it does seem like something that has come on quickly.
The rad is pretty new and the fluid seems clean so I don't think it's a sludge build up that is blocking it (Maybe). It's booked in to my local bongo friendly garage now, hopefully it is just the thermostat :S

Or just possibly a water pump problem? I assume belts are in place and properly adjusted? Good luck, keep us posted.
