Bongo Fury

Hi folks,
Please advise: I have had my bongo friendee 2.5 petrol (with LPG conversion) for just over a year. I had a service with the MOT.
All is well, except garage saying it is having trouble getting a fuel filter and this part of the service is still owed me.
Is the fuel filter (V6), costing £33.50 for members, which is shown on the parts list the one I need?
If so, I will buy it and take it to the garage.

Yes, that's the one.

Get one from Ian and get it fitted, however once fitted you are running on LPG most of the time, so it will not need to be changed as often as running on petrol only, but petrol can get a bit waxed if not used for a while, so at regular intervals I tend to run on petrol for say 20 miles and stick a tenners worth in now and again. I never have more than quarter of a tank of petrol unless I know I am travelling somewhere I can't get LPG.

For future reference you could give the garage the part number J50313480, this is a fairly common unit.

When you start from cold it will be running on petrol and then it switches over the gas. At that point the normal injectors are switched off but the in-tank pump continues to run so petrol is being pumped thru the filter and back to the tank via the return pipe. This combined with the fact that you're not putting fresh petrol in very often means the fuel can go a bit stale so it may be worth chucking some fuel additives like Redex to help keep the system clean.

Cheers for that Simon I was not aware the pump kept running through the filter back to the tank, now you have said it, it makes absolute sense, thus filter should be changed as per recommended intervals.

Yep, the pump is probably working harder than normal as it's sending all the fuel to the injectors and back again. That's also a reason to keep the tank at a reasonable level as the petrol absorbs the heat from the pump to keep it cooled. Vehicles with in-tank pumps tend to suffer more failures if they are always driven round with a nearly empty tank. I was chatting to an owner of a Focus recently who's car actually blows the fuel pump fuse when the tank runs low. Time for a new pump I think.
