A recommendation for a replacement starter battery (not the leisure battery) would be appreciated as mines due for replacement.

A lot of us use Bosch S4 (S4028) 335. Fits any type of Bongo and comes with 4 year warranty.

Would you recommend the same for a leisure battery or something different?

Starter batteries and leisure batteries are totally different....SBs are made to be charged and discharged quickly because of the heavy demands of starting, glow plugs, main lights etc.
LBs are made to discharge slowly, a fridge would probably be the biggest discharge item..

If you couldn't start your Bongo because of some unrelated fault the SB would be flat in a very few mins and would recover quickly once the engine did start. (This treatment would destroy a LB)

A LB would run your fridge for many hours but you should never let its voltage drop below 11.5 volts.

So get yourself the biggest most powerful LB that will fit in the tray.

Having said all that are you sure it is a LB you have in there working via a split charge system....a lot of Bongos (from North Japan) have 2xSBs under the bonnet connected in parallel to start the vehicle in the extream cold....if this is the case with you, you will have to get rid of the extra battery and fit a proper LB and split charge kit.

You can purchase Dual Purpose Leisure batteries, a 105 amp will give approx. 950 CCA (cold cranking amps) .
