howdi all.
just fitting a new head from Mazda Bongo and the 3 way pipe needs inserting.
What do you use to ensure a watertight, not going to come out, seal?

Holding off sticking the head bolts in, until I can confirm I don't need the head off to fit it.

Taken lots of pics on disassembly and will do assembly and post with notes on tips and problems I found.

At least doing this job, means I finally get chance to buy a torque wrench :)
after 35 years of guessing...

seem to recall reading it was a case of freezing it

then getting it in quick before it warmed up

Hi
That's right...freeze it i the freezer, and have the head nearby, or take it to the head in a bag of crushed ice when it comes out of the freezer!...keep the head in the warm as well if you can!
Cheers

Hi
I've not heard of anyone doing so, but I guess a thin smear of hylomar won't hurt...but as it's an incredibly hard / tight fit, I doubt it matters either way
Cheers

EASY... yes kind of.
froze the pipe and left head over fireplace on some cardboard (not raging fire, just warm)
to warm it slowly as it had been in the car and was very cold.

to tap it in i used a screwdriver on the LIP and a hammer on the pipe, (shape of it made it impossible to just tap straight in.)

kept listening to the sound, as when it gets to the "not going any further" the 'tap' makes a more higher pitch tone.

used the tiniest bit of hermetite, was hardly worth opening the tube.
awaiting torque wrench now, hope its here by wednesday when i plan on getting down and dirty again.

thanks all :)
