My roof is getting slower and slower to go up. I've removed the motors and serviced them. They are fine

I'm wondering if my struts are tired but don't know how to test them - perhaps I just remove them and see how strong they are? What can I compare them against? One thing I do know is I removed struts from a VW pop top a while ago and they were amazingly hard to compress by hand.

Have you checked voltage going to the motors? Mine requires a push, the motors are fine but I'm only getting just over 11v. I've checked the control box and fuse connections, all OK, so looking at cabling. Just never got round to it!

I can remember trying to check out my motor mountings as this was given as a possible cause of the roof not elevating properly. I could not budge them as was warned about damaging the fibreglass mounts. Should I have tried harder or is there a trick to it? My roof will now only lock out if I unzip the canvas and push.

I'm awaiting new struts from SGS.
When I get them, I said I'd add pictures of the mounting jig I'll be using.
I'll try and answer your question then Dodgey by using a set of stand on scales, compressing the old and then the new struts with one end on the scales and noting the weight reading when compressed by say 5mm so at least you have something to go on.

Perfect - let us know how you get on. I suspect if your struts need replacing the difference will be quite obvious between old and new.

As an update Dodgey, it might be that I may not be able to answer your question as I don't yet know if I'm going to be able to source gas struts for the Bongo with the higher rising roof. If I can, then I will post an answer to your question.
