If so what type of oil is good, grease, WD40 (I suspect not) or normal 3 in 1.

It is not recommended to grease/oil ,simply polish the chrome ram, they are self lubricating and you can Knacker them with grease or oil etc.

Not really

Silicone grease is not petroleum based and will therefore not affect the rubber seals.
Just don't used petroleum based grease/oil.

Ours squeak and shudder at times. In the past I have tried oil, silicon spray and others none seemed to last for more than a few operations. However in the past year I have taken to noticing that when we are on a perfectly flat standing there is never a problem, it only starts to squeak and shudder when we are slightly angled in any direction, the roof then starts by giving a shudder and the squeaking starts. I've come to the conclusion that its when the roof is at any angle the roof will shudder and start to stress the struts which causes the squealing. The only other time it doesn't squeal is if its at all wet, again the roof seems to come down nicely then.

Exactly that is what will happen if they are oiled or greased, ONE of the enemies of this type of strut is oil grease and GRIT.
Best to POLISH them (THEY are SELF LUBRICATING)and not to leave them tacky for the GRIT to form.
If you need confirmation of this contact the Manufacturer.
Good Luck.
