Bongo Fury

Hi - I've been having on/off issues with ABS since having the front disk's replaced- the light comes on after a short while and stays on - but then, a few days later its fine and may not return for several weeks, before starting to come on again?
I've checked the following:
- Tested the resistance on all sensors - and there all 1600 to 1640 ohms
- I've checked all connectors for corrosion and or poor conductivity
- Reluctor rings have all their teeth and appear in good condition
- I have checked the fault on ODB and get the following which I'm struggling to understand:
1 long flash - 2sec gap - 1 short flash
4 second gap
1 long flash - 2sec gap - 1 short flash
4 second gap
1 long flash - 2sec gap - 2 short flashes
Repeat….
(can’t workout if this is 11, 11 , 12 or 112 or ???)

The old front disks did breakdown badly before replacement so I’m thinking it’s either dirt on the reluctor rings, sensors or I’ve knocked a sensor on the front and changed the gap?
The fact that it’s an on / off problem suggests to me dirt or sensor gap, if anyone has had a similar intermittent issues and or know the correct gap spacing OR understands the fault code sequence above that would be a great help.
Incidentally during a period when the light stopped coming on I tested the ABS on wet grass (French Campsite) and ABS worked fine!!

The first series of long flashes (1.2 Secs) are the tens position. There is a short pause (1.6 Secs) and then the second series of quick flashes (0.4 Secs) begins which are the digits. The codes are repeated indefinitely. with a 4 second gap setting up the next flash sequence.
Ithink you a reading a Ten then a unit ie code= 11

(ABS) Anti-Lock Braking System Malfunction codes
Anti-lock braking (ABS) system codes are read when the TBS and GND pins are connected in the Diagnostic connector. The codes are read, again, like the engine codes, but now on the ABS light on the instrument cluster. A summary of codes and the reasons: This is all from the various web sites

11 = Right front wheel speed sensor or rotor
12 = Left front wheel speed sensor or rotor
13 = Right rear wheel speed sensor or rotor
14 = Left rear wheel speed sensor or rotor
15 = Wheel speed sensor
22 = Hydraulic unit harness
51 = Fail-safe relay
53 = Motor or motor relay
61 = ABS control unit

No experience as to what problem may be.

Reactivating this old thread to see if anyone knows the answer to this one.

A garage on the Isle of Wight has been in touch. They have a flashing ABS light on a new shape 99 diesel. We sent them the factsheet with the list of fault codes. But when it says

The LED is then connected to the Positive pin (bottom row, third from left) and the ABS Fault Code pin (4th row, second from right)....

....the garage says that can't be right because there is no pin on bottom row third from the left. Is this an error on the fact sheet? Or does the new shape diesel have a different diagnostic socket in the passenger footwell?

I suspect its the usual - ITS UPSIDE DOWN - when mounted in the Bongo,
Ground is the V pin on the philmcfadden site, and on the diagram is lower 3rd from left, but on the picture and reality is upper 3rd from right

I keep thinking about adding a page on my site with it labelled differently but showing ONLY the Bongo version. But it would nice to find a comprehensive list of error codes and pinouts as there seem to be variations, maybe, across the range ....
Its the same problem to some extent as the internal fusebox where the labelling / numbering has changed over the years, which is why I never refer to a fuse number but row and position left or right, as depending on age the numbering is reversed, top right to lower left as opposed to the Roman top left to lower right on later models!

I love my job. I really do. After checking the McFadden website and elsewhere I have concluded there is a typo in the factsheet. It should read
