Sediment & Charge light

Hi all,
I have these lights lit up.
I have seen that this could be an alternator fault.
The lights are dim on start up and then after 20 mins, very dim and only visible dark/dusk.
Question is: Does the brightness indicate the level of problem. So as they are dim, is the problem currently minor and as the brightness rises it is a more serious fault?
Leisure battery is very low charge at the moment so I may change this to see if the van is struggling to charge this and pulling to much power.
Thanks all for any advice

Both lights on (regardless of brightness) means your alternator output is low. Disconnect the feed to the LB and it may save any remaining output thats left.

The dimness tells you that the starter battery is not being charged and hence the voltage is very low because its not being charged. Get the alternator looked at ASAP as you may not have many more starts left in the battery .....

I just had the same issue. A new alternator sorted it.

If you are able get a refurb as it will save you about £130

I have gone ahead and ordered an alternator.
Any advice or suggestions on fitting this please?
Is it something I can do myself?
Cheers

New alternator fitted, and thought it was fixed
Noticed that the lights are still showing at a very dim level, same as previous
Cant really see them in bright sunshine
Any ideas gang?

Have you got a split charge relay that is fed from the alternator? The first relay I fitted was activated by the feed to the alternator and that resulted in both lights glowing dimly. Changed it to a proper voltage sensing relay and problem solved.
What voltage are you getting across the main battery when the engine is running?

i had a job on one that was the same too. fitted a proper voltage sensing relay then it was fine.

This was a well known issue on the forum years back, before people had got to grips with fitting vsr properly. You may now be the owner of two good alternators
