Another gear box slippage....

Hi all,

The bongo has been playing up for a few days.

From cold the bongo drives and pulls well. However, once driven for 10mins plus the gearing starts to slip.

I've checked ATF - and all is fine.

Yesterday, whilst going up a moderately steep hill, the slip occurred along with a brief whining sound. Doesn't seem to be going past 2nd when the slip occurs.

What's peculiar driving on the flat, the box changes fine.

Any ideas?

Ta

sounds like its related to load, so maybe the clutches, ive heard these can be adjusted so maybe get to a good auto box man before they burn out altogether.

have a read here.

A few years back I had the auto box of my Omega serviced by a full time autobox specialist and went under the ramp with the mechanic (No hard hat / H&S) to watch him ..

After cleaning / changing filters he 'nipped up' the brake bands .. he said that they are normally torqued up to a low setting .. but with the years he had been doing it he knew how much 'by feel' ..

He tightened them up so they just 'bit' then backed the adjustment of by a tiny amount..

Ten years ago that full service cost me £60 .. I went in a couple of years back to query a similar service on the Bongo ...... £160 ..!!
