Heater display bulb changing

I have a bulb gone behind my heater adjuster display . What is the best way to remove the panel to change it? I have a 97 model non digital display. The panel has two holes on either side to remove it, just like on a radio. However when putting the "prongs" into the holes and trying to remove it, it only comes out about 5mm. Surely you don't have to remove lots of cables and other bits just to change the bulb.

Hi
Pop the connectors off the heater mechanism under the dash (either side of heater distribution box), and disconnect the cable on the side of the under-bonnet heater-box (behind the air-scoop), and un-clip it (left hand side looking toward the rear). Pop a u-shaped bit of wire coat-hanger into the dashboard lever panel holes on each side, and this will release the clips...15 minute job
Cheers

What I also do..... is change ALL the bulbs in there while the panel is out...rather than just the suspect one.... saves hooking it all out again in a week or so when the next weak bulb goes...

Hi Mike
Very good point there!...I suspect I'll be doing mine again...it's a few years since the last one, and I think it did look a bit dull t'other day!
Cheers

Any body know the right size bulb to order for behind the heater controls? I looked at Halford's but they didn't stock them.

The last ones I used were T5 286 miniatures .Most Halfords stock them at about £1.80 each or you can get 10 from EBay for about the same price.

Good Luck.

Thanks Rita, I found some 284's at Halford's and took a chance and they worked perfectly. Took three bulbs to replace all in the manual heater control.
