Shuddering when pulling away

Hi wonder if someone can help? When pulling away from junctions or going uphill my bongo shudders, I have noticed that it doesn't do it when the wheels are pointing straight ahead, it only does it when the wheels are at turned. The shudder definitely seems to be coming from the front. Any ideas what be appreciated.

I'm guessing you have a 4WD diesel? My last one was like that and I think it's normal. When the wheels are turned, all 4 wheels are rotating at different speeds which the front and rear diffs are compensating for, but you will also be getting more power transferred to the front wheels as the viscous coupling does its thing. Changing the oil in both diffs can help, and also check you have the correct size tyres and pressures, and that the wear is fairly even.

Thanks for the comment about changing the oil, I've got it booked in tomorrow to get it done, apparently this is a really common problem with the 4x4 version and usually starts around 100k. I'm at 96k at the moment so mines a bit early. I will keep you posted to see if it makes any difference.

It's worth knowing if you have the limited slip dif' at the rear. It uses different oil (SL6 rather than SL5 i believe) than the non limited slip version. Look for the yellow blob on it.

Hi just wanted to say a massive thanks regarding the oil change, I took my van to two local bongo specialists and both said the viscous coupling was shot and needed replacing at great expense. Following your post I took it to a another local garage that does auto gear boxes including 4x4, the guy there changed all the oils and lubricants and said in his opinion it hadn't been done since the van left the factory, she now runs silky smooth without any sign of rubbing and if I'm not mistaken she's actually faster going up steep hills than ever! Total cost came to £150, money well spent and one very happy owner :)

.What garages did you take it too?
Or what area are you in?
