Front blower questions.

Hi,

I am not a technical minded person when it comes to cars.

I noticed yesterday that my front heater/cooler blower stopped working.

I checked a little bit on the internet and when I take off the plastic air inlet thing I can see the plastic motor top (?) within the big filter. When ignition is switched off it rotates freely. If the ignition is on and I touch it and move it a little then it will spin, until I stop and then it's 50/50 chance if it comes back on spinning again.

Once I manually start it spinning I have control and it will go at the different speeds.

I assume it needs a little lubrication so have put a little WD40 on the screw at the top hoping it will drip down.

Since using the WD40 it seems to be working apart from once or possibly twice.

What else do folk suggest and is it simple to remove this by using the single screw on the top?

Thanks in advance.

Alan

Normally it needs taking apart and cleaning out the corrosion, possibly replacing the carbon brushes as well if they have worn. See the factsheet in the club members area for repair details http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/member ... heater.pdf

dont use it until you have done the motor clean out.service or you may take out the resister pack, then it can start to get costly.

do a search (top right of the screen) and search for front and heater and fix. or resister and pack and fix. and have a read.

Also check that the rain gutter drain pipe is not blocked or water will flood over the heater / electrics ..

Thanks for the responses, my drain pipe is draining OK, but I wil look at stripping down and cleaning the fan.

Thanks to all who responded.

Mine had completely seized and the speed controller connections had melted, (not uncommon apparently)

I got the complete fan casing and motor out and found the bottom bearing to be the problem. There's a felt disc at the bearing which I assumed should be soaked in oil. I cleaned out the gunge, gave everything a good lub, re-soldered the broken connectors and all is well.

I'm a marine engineer to trade so didn't feel too daunted by the job, but still used the club guides to help me along.
They are excellent =D>

Hi thanks for all the info regarding front heater fan my one started to work intermittently so followed advice from the forum and stripped the motor down which was very damp and dirty inside motor
I took motor and brushes apart cleaned and dried it then reassembled and it now works fine
