Hi,

Anyone done this?

It seems that I have a blockage somewhere at that must now be in the pump as I have cleaned everything else out.

Any pitfalls to be aware of? or advice would be appreciated??

Pretty major and specialist job Andy...............before you set out stripping it have you made sure the fuel shut off soleniod is doing its job? Its the device which shuts off fuel delivery when the "ignition" key is turned off

The symptoms are in an earlier thread about white smoke....

So... err well the car produces white smoke on accel, or attempted accel, it will not rev above 2000 and won't go above 30mph....
The head is fine (well the oil is, and the water is).

The fuel lines were cleared last night, whereapon is got worse... then is was a bit better this morning.

so I think there is a blockage in the pump restrictign flow. It stops ok, starts ok, and idles fine. only coughs and belches when asked to go above 2000...

I'll check the cut off.... with fingers crossed.

BTW do you know who makes the pump?

Reminds me of a problem I had with a Ford Maverick I used to own. Lots of black smoke, and no power. Took it to a Ford dealer in Cambridge for a diagnostic. I was told it was a fault in the injector pump, and quoted several hundred pounds just to take the thing off to send to a specialist pump repairer.

Instead I took it to a specialist diesel garage in Bedford for a second opinion. They had a look, adjusted a screw and after that it worked fine.

So I would take it to a specialist.

have you checked the little fuel filter in the banjo on the top of the injector pump. Very fine gauze filter held in with a spring, last defence to pump, ours was badly caked up.
worth a try if you havnt done it before.
there was mention on the site regards to the make of the pump but i cant remember of top of my head.

It might be worth checking the timing before stripping the pump as I problem described ie white smoke does not sound like a blocked fuel line. When I changed my cam belt I got it one tooth out and on test it was flat, not like it was so I checked and found that the cam shaft had moved back a tooth. After that it was ok

Thanks but it was definitely fuel starvation..... tis now solved..

Local diesel specialists told me white smoke + coughing when revved is fuel starvation if it idles ok...

White can also be water.
Black is too rich

Timing can also effect but usually affects all running..

Much relief.....
