Snapped camshaft / replacement head

My local mechanic has just found the fault which caused my mazda bongo not to start.

I can't believe I've been so unlucky in that the fault that he found was a snapped/sheared camshaft, right in the centre, more or less under the centre camshaft cap. It failed while the engine was ticking over on my drive, the engine just laboured then stalled. He said that in his many years of experience, he's never come across a snapped/sheared camshaft before.

I guess I'll need to source a new head which hopefully will include a new camshaft. I hope there's no damage below the head, pistons, bores etc. Does anybody have any experience of this type of repair?

My local mechanic is very busy and not really a mazda bongo specialist, so does anybody know where i could take it to get it repaired? I live near Burnley close to the East Lancashire/West Yorkshire Border. I'm sure I read a post some time ago that said that there was a Bongo experienced mechanic/garage close to Colne or Nelson at the eastern end of the M65.

Regards

There are very good Bongo garages in Wigan and Bury, both will sort it out for you.

Adrian is the man - does all the work on mine and he's excellent and a pleasure to deal with. Very busy though - wonder why! Good luck getting it fixed.

Excellent. I can't recommend this man highly enough. And you can enjoy Bury Market while its in dock, provided he only needs it for the day.
