Location for Scottish Bongo Bash 2015?

Following the success of the Bongo Summer Camp/Tough Northerners event at Dent last weekend, we would like to hold a similar "kids-are-welcome" event in Scotland next summer. If we can talk Matt (Driver and Passengers) to bring his fantastic catering equipment and winbreaks then we can have a giant munchy session again!

This would need to be held over the weekend of 31 July or the following one, 7 August. It would need to accommodate 30 Bongos (at least) all with electric hook-up, and be child and dog friendly. As we like to move the Scottish Bash around a bit we do not want to hold it too far north or too far south.

Originally it was our intention to hold this near Oban but the site we had in mind doesn't allow gazebos. Plus it was a long way to walk to the pub, and they didn't answer our emails!

So we are looking for nominations for 2015. We will need to do this fairly quickly so we can get it booked. Any ideas?

We're in! :D

An open camp fire would be a bonus.

Relatively midge free campsite would be another bonus. With Red Squirrel being out due to the lack of hook-ups maybe Mulshy could make a suggestion. He appears to have visited quite a few campsites along the west coast of Scotland over the past year with his dog in tow.

I think you may struggle with these 2 opposing requirements!

That I know but they can be found. WE were not bothered much by midges at Gairloch in the 2o13 meet.

It doesn't need to be West Coast. Any recommendations your way Dave?

Hi

It's probably too far north but I can highly recommend Clachtol Beach Campsite. The midges weren't too bad, the beach is lovely and there's whale watching thrown in for free.

Could the Trossachs area provide somewhere central and scenic in Scotland as well as not too far for Englanders wishing to venture into God's Country?

It is a long way up north, just a way miles north of Ullapool. Great area (well my grandmother came from Scourie a bit further north) but not been to this particular campsite myself, but I have been to the village of Lochinver a few miles south and climbed all the Munros in the area. The main roads a good thanks to European money paying for new ones a few years back and there is very little traffic - they don't call the area the empty lands for nothing.

Still need to climb the Corbett Suilven, last time I tried a stone in the road got my Saab's radiator on my way to the mountain and by the time it was fixed I had to go back to work.

If they have repaired the roads since I was last there for a day meet, they were dreadful. An unavoidable pothole got the rear inside ABS on my old Bongo on the way back home and it ended up costing me nearly £200.00. Expensive trip.

Any good sites around Stonehaven? We haven't done that part of the East Coast before?
