Scary Electrics!

Hi all.

Got a serious problem with my 'usually' faithful Bongo.
Initially, I had problems with an ignition battery that was too small for the job, so swapped it out. Then checked the charge from the alternator which was low and swapped that out too. Now, on occasions, I can be driving down the road (at around 20/30 mph) and I lose all the electrics all together. It's quite danderous as PAS and all the other stuff cease to work??

Could it be that the alternator could be at fault or could it be something else. Wanted to take tha Bongo for a holiday, but I'm now very reticent as it could happen in the middle of nowhere and I could be stranded!

Was going to take it to a car electrician, but he wanted a fortune and by his approach I didn't think he had too much knowledge on Bongos.

Any help greatly appreciated.

My first checks would be all the Earth cables, I have seen two over the ;last few years that gave similar symptoms

What engine have you got and does it cut out when the problem occurs? Whereabouts in the country are you in case there is a Bongo specialist in your area we can recommend?

It sounds like that particular auto-electrician should be avoided, but at the end of the day, the symptoms of the problem are serious & you have safety concerns about using it so it may be worth getting it checked over properly which may cost a few pounds.

Also check the battery positive cable as well as the earths of course....!

Earths from battery to chassis and from engine to chassis

I guess you could assume ''...all the other stuff'' is taken to mean the engine, but it's always good to get the facts straight when trying to provide remote diagnosis. You know what they say about 'ass u me' ;). Wouldn't want people offering spurious & irrelevant suggestions would we.

I actual fact I was referring to """ It's quite dangerous as PAS cease to work""IE engine cutting out

Another wee clue might be the fact that it looks like its killing the Fuel Stop Solenoid.
