Middle Console of Bongo Really really hot

Hi I bought my bongo three weeks ago.

I just drove it to the super market and back (with about an hour between) which is only a mile. The centre console now seems to be really really hot and despite it being parked for the best part of an hour it still seems to be getting hotter.

It's parked right outside my house and I'm really worried first because I don't want it to get damaged and second (perhaps a bit irrationally) I think it might set fire to my house if anything does happen!

its a 2004 new shape one.

Earlier in the day my daughter feel asleep in the passenger seat and I left her in it for about an hour - it's a really mild day and when I went to get her she was all sweaty. We'd only done a short journey then too. But we drove for two hours from Norfolk late last night.

Any late night reassurance anyone can give would be gratefully received.

Thank you

Vicky

What engine have you got? Generally the diesel ones are slightly warmer than petrol, but both will result in a warm centre consol some don't think you have anything to worry about. It will tend to get hotter when you switch the engine off as the coolant is no longer being circulated and the scavenger fan that will come on if it gets too hot will not be powered when the ignition is off.

Hopefully someone near you will either put a paw on it or let you touch their console for comparison.

It's a boon in winter, and I fitted a scavenger over-ride switch for summer, though I hardly ever use it.

Vicky, I popped up on your thread about the coolant alarm (offering to show you mine etc  ), I've seen this one and the one about the fridge. I think you really need to come and see another Bongo and chat over a cup of tea about them. I'll PM you my details, as your more than welcome to pop over.

Vicky,

I did a little experiment last night. I towed a 1500kg caravan for half an hour and my Haydn gauge showed a maximum of 96 degrees when running. The centre console was warm but nothing more. I turned off the van and shut the doors. After 10 minutes the temperature gauge was showing 100 degrees and the centre console was noticeably warmer, perhaps even hot. After 20 mins the gauge had started to come down again to 98 but the console was now officially hot.

Hopefully this will back up what we discussed, in that without running and having coolant pumped around and air flow underneath, they do get hotter after you've stopped.

I notice my left leg gets quite warm being the driver.
