Automatic shift problems V6 - HELP!!

Hi, we're new to Bongo Fury having bought the van at the end of last year. We're having problems with the automatic shift. It goes through 1,2,3 but refuses to go into top gear more often than not, and if it does it's only a matter of time before it drops out. It doesn't happen all the time, for example we went away for the weekend on Friday and it was fine all the way there, we thought it had been fixed as we had just collected it from the garage. However, it was short lived, and on the way home it dropped to 3rd then went back up quickly. A mile or so later it dropped down again and didn't go back up at all. It results in us driving at 50mph on the motorway and being overtaken by HGV's. We have noticed that when it's working perfectly the gear changes are smooth and almost unnoticeable, but when we start having issues with top gear ie not going into top gear at all or dropping into 3rd, the other gears then become clunky. We have taken it in twice to be fixed they have changed a sensor (not sure which) and the latest one was a wiring/electrical problem, we have also put fresh gearbox oil in. We're tearing our hair out with frustration and would welcome someone solving this puzzle for us.

Where are you based. Hopefully a local Bongo expert can help. It doesn't sound terminal. Sensor connections, TPS and gearbox solenoid packs are things I've heard mentioned before as causes of trouble (search old threads) but someone in the know would be useful. Good luck and keep us posted.

What engine does the vehicle have, does the Hold light come on at any particular time without pressing the hold button on the gear stick.

It's a 2.5 v6 petrol. No, HOLD doesn't appear on the display by itself.
