Hi, My chrome mirror covers need touching up, anyone out there know to remove them without damaging them please?

Also how do you remove the reflector strip from rear door?

Any help will be appreciated. Thank You Marc

Don't quote me but I've been looking at this on mine. I think they are stuck on rather than mechanically fixed. Perhaps someone else will be able to confirm?

Chrome mirror covers are fixed with a massive double-sided adhesive pad. Still trying to get a set off a pair of mirrors I have in the garage. Rear panel (depending on year), you have to remove the handles, number plate, number plate lights, undo the nuts on the inner lip of the tailgate & unbolt the release handle. Should take about 20 mins if you have all the right tools.

Many thanks for replies. Looks a friend has suggested using a heat source on the back to loosen the double sided tape!!! May be worth a try, as to the tailgate I have a 96' so no grab handles but will take your advice on board. Thanks again Marc

if you try to remove just the rear reflector you most probably will break the little plastic tabs that hold it to the rear grey panel, best to remove the whole panel.

Am trying to remove to enable me to drill a hole in back, put in a white LED (on the white reflector) lol and then wire it to the reversing lights. Same with the red reflector wired to the brake lights. Think i should be able to run the wires up through the rear door into van and down through the trim inside. If it works......

I very recently considered just what you're thinking of but I couldn't determine if the reflector under the clear cover was curved to the rear surface, which would be good, or else flat and thus not so good.

In the end, and partly because I wanted the reversing lights to double up as 'loading lights' for night time, I fitted the following into the usual revering light sockets

It took about 1 1/2 hours to fit both - you have to put a half round file into the bulb hole so the bulbs go in - you take off only a very small amount, not enough so you can see.
You'll then find they fit very well, the base fitting snug into the original bulb holder.
A connector on the back of the bulb, mountain bike inner tube zip tied over the connector and bulb base for waterproofing and more zip ties to fasten the bulb in place and there you go.
The lights are truly fantastic - almost too bright. They draw 0.51 amps each, a lot for LEDs
Do this and you'll have an excellent view when reversing.

I added a little switch which turns them from being powered by the starter battery when reversing to the leisure battery when loading or just sitting out of the back.



If you do convert the reflectors to lights, please let me know how you get on

Many Thanks Do like them bulbs! So much more to do, but lights will definitely be getting done as soon as i can. Also trying to work out how to put in a high level brake light as well on the spoiler..... Would love to supply pictures but still trying to work out how to put them on here. Perhaps you have a facelift panel fitted as this is what fitted from 1995 - 1999. The reflector strip changed from amber to clear around 1997/8.

Has anyone ever had those annoying moments when you purchase an item that has sticky lables all over it and is a nightmare to get off without damaging the item or leaving a sticky residue well I purchased some stickly label remover from B&Q but any brand will do it. It's brilliant stuff and I reckon if you squirt a daily dose into your mirror caps eventually is will seep down and destroy the glue Simples
