Bongo Fury

Hi folks,

I'm really sorry if this question has been asked before, but I can't seem to get the "search" function to work on this computer.

Our starter motor on our 2.5L diesel Bongo needs replaced and we've been trying to source one online. Unfortunately there aren't any distinguishing marks or numbers or the like on the existing one, so it was just to find out if anyone knew whether this one would be compatible?

Starter motors often repairable at low cost (maybe not Winter Pack Bongos so check). Search eBay for kits on offer.

....or secondhand still serviceable from the likes of here....

There's two types for the diesel, there's a heavier duty one for the winter-pack frozen north of Japan. I assume they're interchangeable and you don't need the big one in the UK. Then again, you live in the frozen north of the UK

I did my Toyota recently .. similar starter to the Bongo and a very simple job to do ..

I recomend that you do one side at a time so you do not mix the insulaters / contacts .. and do not overtighten the connections as you may crack the insulaters and / or put the contacts out of horizontal line ..

What's wrong with the current one? What are the symptoms?

Thanks folks - unfortunately I'm not a very techie person at all (nor is my other half), so we left the techie part to our friendly local(ish) Bongo mechanic. It was the breakdown recovery guy we needed to get out to get the van started (by hitting the starter motor!) who suggested we needed a new one - our van has seemingly been a bit neglected before we had it, so it looks as though it'll be one of a few things needing sorted, unfortunately.....

Quite possibly mate. I'm afraid having an older vehicle is showing up our lack of knowledge. Have tried to suggest that 'im indoors gets himself along to some sort of night class (I'm already in the middle of a degree, so I have an excuse!), but he's not taking me up on it....

It's like most things ... how deep is your pocket ..??

On ebay a new set of contacts are around £7.50 .. a 'budget' Bongo starter around £130 .. both plus a the cost of fitting ..
