Named driver no claim discount HELP!

Post by Wilber » Mon Jul 21, 2014 5:21 pm

Hi all,

Just bought my first Bongo. Trying to get insurance. Struggling right now!

I have been a named driver on 2 family members' car policies for years.

How can I get a discount on insurance for my Bongo based on no claims as a named driver on another policy?

Just been quoted 449 by Lifesure which was terrible! That was without any no claims discount.

Looking to pay around £240 max

thank you all

I had same issue when coming off company car insurance & taking out policy in my own name. Solution was to ask previous insurer to provide a letter confirming I was a named driver on the company policy & during that time I had made no claims for X years. No problem getting the letter & no problems with the new insurer taking that as being proof of no claims.

Many companies will just give you a good discount for this as Simon said.
I have had good results recently by going to a specialist broker.
Adrien Flux insures mine for £200.
Pete Best did it last year but will now only do it if it has less than 8 seats.
Just keep shopping around

Insurance varies considerably with where you live, age, NCB etc, so £240 may be a pipe dream, unless it's converted and registered as a motor caravan. If it is converted, you could try the Camping and Caravan Club. If it's unconverted, an 8 seater, grey import, MPV is never going to be very cheap, although several people have had good quotes from Admiral.

Thank you for all your advice.

Directline have quoted me £201 with 350 voluntary excess. That is with a discount for being a long-term no claim named driver on another family members car policy.

Seems like a very good deal to me no?
