overheated radiator replaced seems fine now - is it?

Hi this is a follow on to my previous ? about overheating incident a couple of weeks ago.

I drove the 60 miles home very nervously after overheating required recovery and radiator replacement. It seemed fine but is it fine? What should I be on the look out for regarding possible problems as a result of this incident, apart from fitting coolant alarm (which I will get done this week)?

I was planning a big Bongo summer but am now worried to take it on long drives in case of damage to engine, cylinder head, head gasket etc How can I know if there has been more damage? My sense of enjoyment in my Bongo has been overtaken by worry about what else may go wrong!!

The coolant has dropped a little since I drove it home following replacement radiator. Is this normal settling or does this indicate leakage?

Would really appreciate advice on next steps from experienced folk.

I also have cooling paranoia.
Check the common leaking areas every month, Radiator seams and top engine hose.
I have a home made dipstick well a McDonalds wooden stirrer with a line drawn on it 19mm from the end, I dip in in before using the bongo ( only used a couple of times a month) and double check the rad caps back on.
I have a Coolant level alarm and an additional temp gauge, just drive it then like you would any other car.
Dont let the issues stop you enjoying it

Hope you don't mind
If I jump on your thread

I also have had a leak on cooling system
A slight drip from the tee piece under driver seat to rear heater
I cut this out gave system a good flush through with hose pipe repaired with 15mm copper tee and pipe

Added 6 litres g12 antifreeze top up with water and bled system
But this was my first bleed and did not get on as well as misfixit and you lot on the videos
I dropped funnel a couple of times does get hot don't it
Started again
Got bottom hose hot
See sawed coolant through funnel for quite a while in thunder storm
All seemend fine
But on my run home of 15 miles my engine head was hotter than normal

Normal head temp 84-86 up to 90 pushing it hard
But I came back at 90-94 head temp

Bottom hose to rad at front usually 30-40
But I came back at upto 50

Turned aircon on to drop it went straight down to 30 at hose to rad
And 84ish at head

I'm not happy with this
Does it sound correct

Will take it for a good run tomorrow again

Been back 30 mins level in header tank still ok

Any advise great fully received

Off to Devon in 2 weeks with caravan on back could of done with out this

It is normal for the level in the tank to drop a centimetre or two after a bleed and it may drop further for the next few runs. If you keep topping it up to the max line you should find it will settle down after a while. I understand the paranoia and feel it now and again, but having just done a 4000km jaunt round France without a hitch, I've got to a point where I'm happy that everything is running as well as it ever will be and there is no point in loosing any sleep over it :).

Thanks for the reassurance on the coolant level Simon glad you had a great trip -and thanks for the other words of wisdom on my coolant paranoia! Seems to be a common theme!
