This may be a fairly silly question so please bear with me, but if I roll up my awning when it's wet will there be any problems to the canvas?

As with any tent type structure, it'll not do it any harm if you pop it out to dry when the rain stops.

Like the roof tent, it's plastic rather than a waterproofed breathable fabric as a normal tent, so it's ok rolled up and left wet. It might stain but it'll be ok.

It'll get wet inside the casing when driving in heavy rain anyway, so the only thing you can do is unwind it regularly to allow it to dry out.

Well, it got wet in a recent, isolated, thundershower but dried out quickly.
What I learned from this experience was it is essential to make sure the awning is sloped to allow the water to run off!

Yep: good point. Angle it away from van and have one leg shorter than the other to direct the water to one corner. If you have it horizontal you will end up with a giant swimming pool above your head

Also, if you're camped on grass with even a small slope, have the short leg on the low side of the slope so your awning water doesn't run through your pitch, otherwise the area under the awning will be mud in no time at all.
