Bongo Fury

Hi everyone, went to start Daisy this morning,turned the key the orange light went out, she turned over fine but would not start ,I left her afew mins then tried again, this time she sprang into life on the first turn of the key.........any ideas,I should mention this did happen once before.. as the SB looked alittle sad i replaced it ,thinking that as the cause.....thanks Paul

Glow plug relay, or the plugs themselves?

Maybe a slight air leak into the fuel line, meaning that the fuel runs back towards the tank when the engine is stopped. Had something similar on a Xantia, when the diesel return pipes between the injectors had started to perish.

If the issue is an air leak, it might be worth seeing if the Bongo starts easier after being left pointing down a hill rather than up it.

Hi, thanks for the replies,I think I will start with a new glow plug relay.....blimey there not cheap are they!

Rather than replace the relay, start by measuring the voltage on the Glowplug bus, if that is low then look towards the connectors and then only after that at the relay! If you don't already have a multi-meter then its a lot cheaper than a new relay!

When you turn the ignition on,wait until you hear a distinctive click from the relay before cranking over.Can be a good 30/40 secs after the glow plug light has gone out.

If your engine does not start owing to the glow plugs/heaters not working (in this weather)I think you need to look at the overall condition of the engine.

thanks for all advice,I've had dasiy for over two years now ,apart from a leaking radiator and water pump when I first got her ,no probs at all {6000 miles) I did 320 miles in one day last month, I don't think I need to look at anything major as far as the engine is concerned,,,,,I think I will start with changing the glow relay....is it easy to do.
