hold light flashing after speedo change

I removed the chip box (Import solutions speed control unit ISLSCUSM8V2) from the back of my speedo to revert to Kilometers (We live in France) and the Hold light started flashing if I go into 4th.

Tested the fault codes and got 7 (Vehicle speed sensor) and 12 (Throttle position sensor)

Having previously messed with the TPS I backed it off a bit, soldered my twisted wires together, and hoped for the best.

Now it still trips at the same point - when lockup is engaged but I get fault code 1 (Engine speed sensor)?

Apart from not having the hold function it drives fine, goes into 4th and locks up the tourque converter ok

Any ideas what to try next - I could dismantle the whole speedo arrrangment again and clean all the contacts?

Wondering if when you fit one of these box/chips there are any othe wires uct that I missed - strangely there was an earth wire (green/yellow) that had previously been cut and resoldered, maybe this used to connect to somwhere and was cut when the box/chip was installed

Unfortunatley I cant find a website for Import solutions who made the box/chip to look for the fittng instructions.

p.s. yes I have read ALL the threads about flashing hold lamp and the associated fax sheets :(

Could it be the other speed sensor that drives the RPM, the first fault code was for vehicle speed which drives the Speedo, the second fault is engine speed which is the RPM this is driven from the ECU and the sensor feeds into the ECU.

Both the speedo and the revcounter work and accuratly enough that the sensor must be working?

Just trying to work out what I've disturbed/anoyed/pissed off by removing the speed chip - I'm going to dismantle the whole thing again today - clean all the contacts and put it back together.

Could it be that the speed senso first feed the dash, then back to the ECU?

Yes the speedo sensor feeds the Dashboard - via any kmh/mph module - then the dash feeds the ECU and several other locations as well.

I pulled the dash apart again, right down to the speedo module, cleaned all the connections, checked all the soldered wire conections, nothing.

Same again, as soon as I get to 4th oth there abouts, the hold light comes on and I loose the hold funiction, bit everything else works? I guess I should find the ECU (I think it's under/behind the central cubbie) and start running continuity checks on the wiring?

I guess the speed sensors themselves must be fine as I have speedo and rev counter?

Did get a code for EGR valve position?? as well as the sped sensor one? but this only turned up once - I think I am just chasing wiring gremlins not a real fault

Hold light still flashing :(

Been chasing wires and still nothing broken yet.

Getting code 7 (Speed sensor) - but the speedo and revcounter work fine???

And code 16 (EGR position sensor) - no idea what's going on here? can't I ust open circuit or shor this one to make it go away AFAIK the EGR is blanked on mine

Any ideas?

Thanks Tom

Check the 1D connector pin on the dashboard (there are 3 connectors, see the diagram at the bottom of the page)
this is the signal out from the speedo to everything else (6 different systems use the signal) the wire on the connector is Green/Red;

Thanks Geoff,

There was a possible doggy connection on th epin you mentioned - the box/chip was attached directly to the speedo mounting screw not the wiring harness - I checked continuity all the way to the ECU plug - good contact.

Dismantled the EGR sensor (what a pain that is to get to had to take the canter piece off the engine bay!) , it was a bit stiff, but not that bad, cleaned all the connections and put it all beck together.

Tightend the AC and Alternator belts a lot - they were sounding bad for the last 500 miles and I think might have been contributing to the whole problem by giving me a low voltage?

So far so good, but I haven't driven to far yet.
