Steering noise

I have started to hear a noise when I steer the van. It is like a clicking / taping type of sound and I can only hear it when I turn the wheel when I am driving.
Any ideas what this could be and how I can solve it?

Yep cv joint, just done mine, 39 quid jap spares on e bay. Cured my problem.
Try to work out which side the noise is coming from, mine was obvious. off side.

hi.yep you have got a cv joint going and it will not get any better,it can also cause excessive tyre wear,so it,s worth doing straight away.

I have never changed a CV joint. Is it a difficult job, worth getting a garage to do it?.

You will need good tools, I had to buy a 35mm socket to get the center nut off, and that was with my impact tool, it was tight. The rest comes apart reasonable-ishhhh, i have still some sore knuckles
Garages tend to charge a lot and tell you the parts are exspensive.
Another option is to buy the parts, then check if any mobile mechanics in your area. If you can get a mechanic to do it for say 70/ 100 quid, then with the parts its still not to expensive.

Would it be the outer or inner cv joints that need changing?

99% times the outer. They wear more on vehicles which have had a lot of straight line motorway type use as the bearing balls are working in the same position most of the time.

Mine was the outside cv joint. As previously stated nearly all ways the outer one. When the inner drive is bad it clunks.
Jack up the van, hold the drive shaft and move it back and forth, wear can normally be felt, in my experiance.
