Squeal when you put your foot down in 2L 2001?

Hi - can anyone advise on the following please?

When you drive light footed, everything is fine - if I put my foot down to force a gear change, you get a squeal.

It's not loud and it goes when you drive normally.

The engine has done around 60K and has had a cam belt change.

Any pointers for me?

Thanks, Donald

I get a slight squeek noise from my V6 when I pull away when cold. Sounds like it comes from the gearbox. Doing a full service and ATF drain and refil tomorrow so will have a look to see what condition the fluid is in.

Check there's not a exhaust manifold stud broken or missing esp around cyl one normally visible by black soot around the area

Petrol engines don't seem to suffer the exhaust stud breakage issues like the diesels.

Hi does it hesitate on power then surge fwd, it may be a box problem. after a long drive mine does it and make a dull whistle sound..

Most likely problem is the alternator belt loose. take up the slack I think belt deflection is 10mm when pushed (with your thumb)

Hi Donald, met you at the Bash, (Jap flag roof) I have a similar noise when I accelerate hard but it is an exhaust noise I think. A colleague listened when I revved it up on the ramp and it sounds like it was coming from the tailpipe as the fumes came out. It is not a stud as they are all there and it doesn't appear to be leaking. My tailpipe has a slight bend on the end so not sure if that is disturbing the flow. You have the same engine it would be interesting to find out.
Loved your van by the way.
Regards
Stu

I have replaced both the belts now, still got a squeal when you put your foot down - hoped it was sorted.

What else could I look at do you think?

the down pipe from the manifold, the 1st part of the exhaust, is a twin wall piece, the inner tends to split, then the noise is heard. ive heard of a few that have to have the outer cut off then repair the inner, then weld back the outer. could it be this your hearing.

the a/c has a pulley bit tensions it

spray grease on it

as a temp measure to see if its the bearing in it
