Bongo Fury

The muppet who had my bongo before me had shorted out the sensor wires on the low coolant alarm... Thanks! When I repaired it the alarm is now on all the time. I suspect some additive, radweld maybe, has coated the sensor screws in the header tank.

Anyone had this happen? Can they just be cleaned, or do they need replacing? If so does anyone know if they are ordinary screws or something special?

You can remove the screw & give it a gentle clean with a wire brush. As long as you loosen the cap first (when cold) there will be no pressure in the system so you should not really loose any coolant during this process. The screws are stainless steel in the unlikely event that replacement is required.

Yep, just do it when cold.....release the tank cap then seal it again....remove the screw and wire brush it....or contact me for a new screw.......they are A4 stainless but the length and thread are critical.

I had a reply of enginesaver in Australia, they say the screws are 25mm now, mine are shorter than this - they started using longer ones a couple of years ago.

Length is not critical, but we can send a new one....however ..first I would clean the screw you have and see if it improves.....there are other causes of the alarm sounding and my guess is that it is wired wrong,

Cleaning seemed to do the trick, now have to siphon some water out to check it does actually go off!

It will....but if you just unplug the bullet connector on the sensor wir e near the alarm unit ...that will test it....
