Afternoon all,

There's currently a deal on at Cotswold Outdoors for a stove + hose + empty gas cylinder for £115.

I have received a £75 Cotswold Outdoors voucher from the organisation that I volunteer for so thought I may put it towards this....

Is it worth it? I don't have a conversion (and don't intend to) but I have no experience of 'normal' camping, only wild camping. My initial view was that this would be more substantial for cooking and actually making meals in comparison to my small MSR.

It will mainly be used to cook bacon!

Also, is that gas cylinder too big?!

I think it looks like a good stove for the money - a grill is always a bonus. I think the gas cylinder is a good size (mines the next size up from that one actually but through swapping my dad who needed a smaller one for his yacht, not through choice).

Looks like a great stove for the money.

I'd probably look to run it off a Calor 4.5 kg as the gas is much cheaper, but even Camping Gaz will be cheaper than disposable containers.

It should also run off propane if you camp in winter.

Having two rings and a grill is a big advantage over the MSR.

It takes about 10mins practice to get used to it but it lasts ages on 1 ltr of unleaded, light weight no big gas bottle to lug about etc, very light weight too.
Far faster than gas for heating up.
I was going to sell it but forgot how good it was, I have just been boiling some wood for the aquarium for the last two days and its been excellent.
Only down side is the pan base gets a bit sooty some times.

A grill is very handy I've found. Without it, i'd almost settle for two cheap suitcase cookers for short camps.

Diplomat, I am far too aware of that unfortunately! I also have a 20% off code to use but assumed that although this was not valid, the gift card would be.... Only one way to find out I suppose!

I've got a similar stove, with grill, running off the same 907 cylinder. The 907 is fine for a few days camping, and easy to store and transport. I wouldn't go for the smaller 904 though, unless you only had a day or so. Also sensible to keep a spare full 907 handy if you can (I don't yet have one myself though).

It is expensive to pay the deposit on the cylinder, but you may be able to pick one up cheap from your local recycling centre or Freecycle forum. This can save a lot of money!

Worst case, buy something for £75 and then return it. You'll either get a credit note or a gift card to the same value. That will give you a bit more time to find something you really want to buy. You'll probably also be able to use your discount this way.
