Are you sure? It looks like something clips into it. In the handbook it says to leave the hatch open thus the air escaping so this must be for something else.

According to the sales literature, is a beverage portal, although I believe some people fit a tube thru it for beverage disposal purposes
I think it also serves as a vent as Haydn suggests.

I 've heard various opinions, including...
1 for passing drinks etc to kids sleeping in roof.
2 to release trapped air when lowering AFT.
Both seem to make sense..?

You can also reach up to shake kids by the shoulder if you need to wake them.
