if you want the fridge to run when stopped and want to restart the van in the morning it ought to be well up the priority list

You only need a leisure battery if you are intending to run equipment for any length of time while you are stationary with the engine stopped, as if you do not have a leisure battery in addition to the main battery, then everything you run will be running off the main battery, and you may find that you do not have enough battery power to start the engine next time you try. The leisure battery is disconnected automatcally from the main vehicle battery when the engine is switched off, so draining the leisure battery will not prevent the engine being started. If you are running a fridge, particularly if it is not a compressor-type fridge, then I would say that a leisure battery is virtually essential.

We havent got a leisure battery because we havent got around to it.
But we have not missed it.
We always get leccy hookup at the campsites which costs on average about ?2 more.
We run the fridge, light, electric heater, plus all sorts of other things.
Charging up the camera. etc.
Unless you are going to go to campsites without leccy or do wild camping, you will not miss it.
I have rung round and it will cost about ?150 to get the battery done.
Thats 75 days camping with hookup, so Its not worth it for us.
Might get it one day, but its not a priority for us.
leisure battery.

Hi Thankyou to you all that replied. Decided to have a Leisure Battery fitted . By the way the fridge is a Compressor fridge. Feel having the leisure battery will suit us better just in case we decide to camp some where without the hook up, so it will be a good back up for us. Thanks once again all. Andy and Denise.
