Can't select HOLD

Can anyone advise please - i'm not sure if it's a coincidence but I blew no.1 fuse yesterday so replaced it - driving the bongo this morning I heard some transmission whine and thought I would switch the HOLD on/off just to see if it was related. However HOLD doesn't appear to work anymore. Hoping I've not goosed the box - any thoughts ?

The 10 Amp top right supplies an unswitched supply to the ECU - along with many other things, do you know what caused the fuse to blow ?

The fuse I blew is the 10A one in the top left as I view it from the driver's position.

Embarrassingly it blew because I was fiddling about with the old courtesy light wiring (I have an after market roof and looking to install LED lighting to the sidestep). Regrettably and stupidly I didn't disconnect the SB and LB.

I have since disconnected them and pumped the brake pedal which I read on BF resets the (main ?) ECU.

The HOLD light will illuminate in R when shifted from P but not always. On a couple of occasions when stationary I think it illuminated in D too.

Thinking HOLD might not engage until moving and in higher gears I went for a quick spin round the block but couldn't engage hold. It otherwise seems to drive ok to me and I was cruising on the motorway this morning before I became aware of the problem which I'm concerned might turn out to have been a bad idea.

Thanks

Jim

I should add that last week I removed the centre console to do a bleed after bypassing my rear matrix following coolant loss. I wonder if I may have disturbed the blue wire to the HOLD as I also decided to trace some of the wires/cables left over following the conversion which are routed under the centre console. The blue wire seems to be jointed to two black wires which then disappear into the white multi plug.

The light will come on simply by operating the switch, doesn't need the engine turning or anything else!
Yes I would guess that you have somehow disturbed the wire, possibly broken it maybe, see the first photo here http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... 41#p386041

Thanks Geoff - you don't think it could be ECU related then ?

Can't rule it out no, but I would look for the most obvious to start with!

Thanks Geoff

I removed the gear selector etc as per your link and had a quick look but there was nothing obvious with the blue wire so i will have to do a bit more digging.

However, I'm inclined to agree it seems to be the most plausible explanation particularly as moving the cable / shifting the selector seemed to change things (alas not since I removed the gear selector - perhaps that proves it !). Despite this, the van seems to drive ok - it seems to be smoother and more responsive but that's most likely just my imagination

Thanks again

jim

What about the" transmission whine " has it gone.

You're not far from Adrian at Japandirect in Bury if you need a good Bongo specialist.

Probably not relevant to the Hold Light problem but might be worthwhile checking the level/condition of the transmission fluid.

Thanks Mike, Adrian has done a few jobs for me and is my first choice when I don't have the time or feel I don't have the capability - I can't fault him great bloke does great work and very reasonable prices

Thanks Rita I think you're right and will check level and condition tomorrow - it's been a couple of months since I last checked

Checked the ATF and its nice and clear (smells ok too - although not sure what I should be smelling for ... presumably nasty burnt smell to accompany nasty burnt colour) - level is good too.

I suspect the HOLD button is a dodgy connection as suggested and will investigate further soon.

The transmission whine - now I think about it the sound seemed to come from the back of the van (perhaps diff) but I have done a quite a few miles today (including a repeat of my Saturday morning journey - a round trip of 70 miles) and haven't heard the whine.

I must confess I had been out to a very loud bar with my band mates the night before, hadn't had much sleep and my hearing wasn't great the morning after (I was definitely suffering temporary threshold shift :x ) so my hearing was impaired ...

Will keep an eye and an ear out ...

Cheers

Jim

Well the van has been good since last posting this thread (touch wood it continues that way).

However, I am still without the HOLD feature.

Can anyone tell me if the gear selector is serviceable or more precisely if it is possible to remove the HOLD button.

I finally got around to having another look today and lo and behold one of the wires is loose and floating around inside the selector cavity.

Whilst the spring loaded shift selector button comes out easily, the HOLD button seems to be captive and I'm wondering if its possible to repair or do I need to buy a replacement selector with the HOLD and illumination loom ?

Cheers

Jim
