Hi - has anyone had a Swivelling Bench Seat from Northstar Conversions fitted?

I'd be interested in this too if anybody has any feedback, it's on the list of possible upgrades.

Planning to get the outback and the swivel bench in the next couple of weeks. Looks like the best option as I'm not keen on having rear facing seats in the middle row.

Really happy with the outback and swivel seat. One thing to note is that you need to take down the table and lift out the bench seat units to get enough space to swivel.

Do you mean the wheel box seats? If so, that's a shame.

I've been looking at the swivel seat for a while.
My Bongo has an Outback conversion which I love - but had a couple of questions regarding the swivel base:

Does the side door need to be open for it to swing round?
Is it possible for the seat to be stopped or locked in any position? (I'm thinking of it being diagonally facing side door and rear to maximise the space to get in and out of the van.

If the bench seats need to be removed, then that's a no go for me - and that's a real shame.

It says the swivel plate is crash tested, but what about the seat after being modified.
Do you get some sort of certificate to say that it is fitted to a certain safety standard for passengers?
Are insurance companies ok with this, as you would have to inform them of the modification?

Yep, you need to remove the wheel box seats, or at least stand them up out of the way to swivel. Yes that's a bit if a pain if you load them up with stuff

It only locks when either facing to the rear or the front, not at any point in between.

I also asked Adam from northstar about the crash testing. He said the bracket is crash tested, but not the whole swivel seat. However his approach is over engineered and in his view better than the standard side conversions due to the weight of the metal and fixings in use.


I have told insurance (2gether) that I've out in a camper conversion but no specifics. Think that's fine though

The side door can be open or closed I think to swivel, it's usually open though.

Hey bongodoodah, is your swivel seat working out well? Is it just a case of undoing some screws to remove the wheel box seats? Thanks for any info

The seat boxes are fitted with quick release brackets (same as the brackets that clip the table on) so removing them takes seconds & no tools are needed. It is a bit of a pain doing it though if you have stuff in the boxes as they are open at the back, i keep the stuff in the boxes in plastic bags to make it easier to lift the stuff in & out. One other downside is i find the seat very noisy when drving if no one is sitting on it, quite squeaky & rattly. If it wasnt for needing forward facing 3 point belts I would definitely just have the fixed seats permanently reversed

Just wondering if you could still fit a drawer underneath the bench seat if you have the swivel option? A drawer like this for example:

It requires full clearance underneath the bench, I'm guessing you don't have that with the swivel base?

No chance, you have less room under the swivel seat than you do with the original seat.

hi can i ask how much it cost to have the back swivel bench seat done.

I suggest you contact Northstar if they still do it
no longer on their web site
a few years back it was about £5-600 from one receipt i seen
as I said on other post you cannot turn it at the back
