WHICH BATTERY?

Hi guys

Long winded but here goes....

My battery is acting suspicious and I have a disagreement with the alarm fitter who claims the battery is at fault not the alarm. I am sceptic given that I have alarm problems 6 months in and its on warranty?

I had the battery tested by green flag fitter who also rested the alternator. Alternator putting out 14.1 and he said the battery was fine with 12v present? the van starts from cold no problem

That said I often get a laboured start in the mornings and last week I sat at the seaside with a bag of chips, switched the engine off for around 30 minutes with the lights still on #-o #-o  come to start it and it was totally dead!

I feel this should not have happened after such a short period of time so to eliminate any doubts I went to get a new battery today. Then my problems became compounded even further. The battery on it must be the original as it is Hitachi and covered in jap writing and boy it's a big un. on a 2002 that's 14 years old.

After trying 3 different places including Mazda, no one can identify which battery to fit as they have no ratings or cold crank settings and so on. I can get a battery anywhere but probably not the right one and no one wants to take the chance.

Can anyone out there let me know any detail on which battery or equivalent I can get and where?

I need one desperately now and never thought getting anew battery would be so problematic or am I dealing with divvy's.

Cheers

BTW - you are right that your battery is stuffed. I've left my lights on for way more than half an hour and it started fine.

I guess your right but what's throwing me is that it starts every time without fail so it was hard to believe.

Cheers for the comment :)

But you did say that you often got a laboured start
If the Green Flag man said that the battery was only reading 12V, that is well below what a healthy battery should show (about 12.8V) and is close to being either flat or worn out.
