If I unavoidably run into a shallow flooded area of road, without slowing enough, the engine "dies". Usually, after about 15 minutes, the engine will start up again.
Can anyone suggest a reason for this?

Sounds like moisture on the ignition system, most likely on the distributor cap which then dries out with the heat of the engine. Alternatively, it has been suggested in the past that the crankshaft position sensor which is low down on the front of the engine, can be prone to sudden changes in temperature or getting a dunking.

Have a read of this: http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... lit=+crank

Call me old fashioned but if you do as you have described
,you are creating/contributing to the problem.

Why do you not slow down??????????
