Flashing preheat glowplug dashboard light...

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone on here, knows the reason why this light
is constantly flashing on the dashboard ?

It doesn't seem to affect the performance of the vehicle at all ?

I have read on here, that it may mean that a fuse has blown or
the AFT needs topping up etc ?

Any advice, much appreciated.

Thanks,

A flashing Glow Plug light indicates that the ECU is reporting an error.
See the Fact sheets http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/member ... ostics.pdf
also info here http://www.philmcfadden.co.uk/MazdaDiagnosticBox.htm

Have you recently had the centre console off? I seem to recall, disconnected engine bay temperature sensor will also cause the light to flash.

I Have taken the centre console off, but the flashing glow plug light was
already flashing before I done this.

In the interior fuse box on the drivers side, it says there should be a fuse
in location 18 (glow plugs) but mine hasn't got a fuse in there, and there
is nothing for a fuse to lock into ?

The only thing I have noticed that doesn't work, is the light on the centre
console by one of the coffee cup holders.

The fuse in question you mention is;

Try a RED - 10 Amp fuse in there I find it difficult to believe that the pins are actually missing, they aren't obvious externally that is for sure.
The fuse connects the ECU to the GP supply so that it knows when they are on and can control the timing.

Correct, that is exactly the fuse I am on about,

I tried a fuse in this slot, but it just falls out, there is
no metal contact clips inside it.

Also, I have a blue wire going to fuse 1 and a red wire
going into fuse 8 on the top row of fuses.

What type of Bongo do you have ?

The two wires that have been added do they go to the top connector or the lower connector of the fuse socket?
If they go to the lower connector you probably have a Leisure Battery fitted ?
If not then it sounds like someone has been playing with the electrics, I hope that those wires can carry a LOT of current as one is fused at 40Amps and the other at 60Amps!

It almost sounds as if someone might have changed the fuseblock at some time, if that fuse has no contacts behind it ?

The van is a 2.5 Diesel 2wd, V Registration \ 2000 , Aero City Runner, with a side conversion installed.

Yes, your right, the wires go to the bottom of the fuse block,
and yes, the van does have a leisure battery installed.

Well at least that cleared up what the wires going to fuse 1 & 8 are for, thanks :)

But from what you are saying, it sounds strange that fuse 18
is missing completely ?

Have you tried unscrewing the block and looking behind I'm wondering if you will find signs of tampering ..... or even a set of connections pushed out but that is quite difficult to achieve! If you could at least find the wire then you could add back the fuse using an inline connector.

I will have a look behind the fuse holder tomorrow evening, as it is to dark now...

If you we're to take your fuse out of No.18 (Glow plugs),would you say you
would see the same error on your dashboard ?

I.e. flashing glow plug light.... ?

And with this fuse removed, how do you think the van would behave ?

Being a V6 ....... But I'm sure someone with a Diesel could try it out!

I don't suppose you have a glow plug light then.....lol :)

I think I need to take it somewhere for some diagnostics,

Thanks for the help so far.

In my original post, I said "It doesn't seem to affect the vans performance at all"

This was false..... I have since been told, that the van has been in limp mode, since
the glow plug light had started flashing.

Having never driven one before, I didn't really know what the performance was
meant to be like.

Bit of an update...

My vehicle is at Discount Trucks at the moment, they are based near Newbury,

So far they have looked at the waste gate, and EGR valves.
(The vehicle had 2 new EGR valves fitted in 2012,which is documented in the vans history)

Also documented in the vans history in 2012,is an investigation into "lack of power & glow plug warning light"
Remedy being at the time (sublet running fault to Motelec Mazda fuel pump repair) ?

Tomorrow, they are looking at the hoses and the EGR solenoids.

It seems to me, that there a a lot of new shape bongo's (post 1999) with very similar problems...
