On the other hand, we've got a pair of ramps in the way that we're unlikely to use. If they were going to a good home it could be an excuse to take Muzette for an icecream at the weekend....

Only if you forget to remove the passengers
Kerb weight: 2wd: 1770kg / 4wd: 1790kg
Gross weight 2260kg

the total weight is over 4 wheels, each ramp supports a 1/4 of the total weight, got a pair of these myself, no probs

Hi
It might be timely to state that any advice proffered on the Forum is not the opinion of "Bongo Fury", as mentioned in "Terms and Conditions", and is an opinion of the person offering advice
Thanks for noting this!
Cheers

The weight will not necessarily be evenly split four ways either. I've got rear conversion & an LPG tank so the rear axle is bearing more weight than the front.

The front & rear axle weight division of a vehicle depends mainly on engine position & drivetrain arrangement, eg a front engine front wheel drive car will have a way heavier front axle weight than rear axle weight. All of the bongo engine & transmission variations have different weights. The heaviest Bongo (2.5d 4WD auto) has a front axle weight of 1116kg & a rear axle weight of 744kg. Obviously this is a standard 8 seater.
Your ramps should easily take a standard bongo.

I always thought that ..when lifting the two front or rear wheels of off the ground you were in fact basically taking most of the weight of the vehicle.

(Science alert...)
If so, then you would easily be able to lift the rear off the ground... it's a class 2 lever - falcrum is the back (or front) wheels, load is nominally the center of gravity and the effort is the front (or rear) jacking point.
With ramps, the effort exerted upwards by the ramps will be equal to the weight on those ramps.

Imagine you had a wooden box with a handle at each end & a heavy lead weight at one end. When lifting the handle on the end opposite the lead weight, you would have to put in much less effort as it will be pivoting on the heavy end. If the weight was exactly in the middle, then the effort required to lift either end would be identical. At least, that's how I see it...

Hi
Oh, boy, I wasn't going to comment, but all wrong, I'm afraid, as the mechanics of raising a car on ramps is far more dynamic, and involves calculations involving the rearward shifting of the C. of G.
Suffice it to say I wouldn't recommend creeping under a vehicle of the Bongo's weight on ramps which are probably made in an obscure Eastern European factory, or China, given a dollop of paint, and a nice sticker....The safest way is to hire workshop space at a garage with a lift or a pit!...or drive up the kerb in the road
Cheers
