A few pics from a little run out to play in the snow on Sunday.
Ski lift in the background, plenty out skiing and snowboarding at Yad Moss near Alston.

We have had some in the Scottish Borders. But this winter, even though it has been very cold at times, it has been mostly a case of here today and gone tomorrow.

There were 6ft drifts up at Alston last year when we did our two pubs tour

we don't get snow like we used to!
The café at Alston and the road leading to it. Note the date! Also my missus is 4' 11?
This is not mountains in the background its snow from a road clearing
This is the view from the road where they cut a path through the snow
I am in a Landover Disco and its well above my height!

two pubs tour, that sounds interesting, and in my area do you still do it?

Stu.
Our two pubs tour was last Feb and we decided to visit the two highest pubs in England. Tan Hill Inn in N Yorks and the Cat & Fiddle between Buxton and Macclesfield.
I did a full report on the trip last year but it seems to have been removed.

Cat & Fiddle, road closed

Tan Hill Inn, again roads closed
Spent the night here. Minus 9C. Bloody sheep kept trying to get in the van.
Bongo was brilliant,4wd and snow tyres got through everywhere.
Carried on North and ended up walking to High Force just down the road from the ski slopes
Just over 400 miles over the weekend, lot of it in deep snow
BTW, seems the Harwood tow has closed for good.

Nice picture of High Force, could the VW do that just as good? How's it going? The offer still stands when you are up this way to call in for a coffee.

Cheers Stu.
Don't know cos it hasn't damn well snowed. In theory it should be as good, lot heavier than the Bongo though but the rear drive has a lockable diff rather than the LSD on the Bongo. Just need some white stuff. Going up to Glenshee for a falling over session in it this weekend as there's plenty up there so might get to try it out even if it's only in the car park.
Seems you can stay overnight in the car park for free. Bogs said to be terrible though so got the porta potti.

Glenshee! lucky you Brain, just pray that they don't close the blasted snow gates on you. Pop in for a cuppa if you are passing our way on either your outward or return journey.
Tony
Top tip for Glenshee: have a falling over session with the locals who man the Glenshee chairlifts at the Invercauld Arms in Braemar the night before. Buy a ten trip ticket for the Glenshee chairlifts on the day, use the right chairlift and your ticket will never be punched. That is what I use to do yonks ago when I was a lot younger but it did involve getting thrown out of the Invercauld a few times for fighting and being drunk. Ooops!
I'll bet that they use a different system a Glenshee these days.

I don't know why some posts do get removed, it's not like the code takes up much memory and the images aren't included as they're only links. There's a decree to remove old posts that won't be of any interest to future generations of Bongonaughts but even then they're not supposed to be deleted, only moved to The Vault. Some of my tour reports have vanished too which is annoying considering the effort that goes into some of them and your Pub one. The likes of tour ideas are always of potential interest to newbies and oldtimers alike
If you do get to Glenshee, enjoy. That Spittal of Glenshee road from Blairgowrie to Braemar is excellent in the summer, never mind the winter

I agree Muz, Briwy. Surely our Bongo history should be kept for newcomers who could find it useful or interesting. I read everything when new on here and the travelogues are always valuable. I used to do some useful posts and the tips contained therein are still relevant. These days I've nothing much to add and little spare time or energy to do it

Thanks Tony
Trust you to find the pub
Just looking at the weather forecast, getting worse up there and we're not into skiing in crappy weather when you can't see where you are going so may just end up having a walk somewhere.
