Bongo Fury

hi all,just had both front driveshafts replaced on
4x4 2.5 diesel.after driving about half a mile abs
light comes on and stays on.both abs rings were
on replacement shafts.can anyone shed any light
on what may be causing this and how to remedy
it.thanks,tay

Don't know I'm afraid, but if it was a garage I'd ask them.

took it back twice bob. garage says it must be a faulty part,but i cant see how it can be.

Could be the wrong amount of teeth on the abs rings ,correct shafts but wrong amount of teeth! Have the sensors been damaged at shaft renewal?

do you know if its possible to change over abs rings. i didn't think the teeth may be different

Try to read the diagnostics port as explained here - the computer may be able to tell you why it is lighting up the fault light

Can't see why ABS rings would be different, but if the ones on there now have a different number of teeth it will tell the control unit that the front and rear of the van is travelling at different speeds. You can fit new ABS rings but I have a feeling that if trying to re-use second hand ones may be risky as they are likely to break on removal. To get them off you will need to disconnect the driveshafts. Possibly for the garage to sort out now you've got a vehicle which is not technically roadworthy as it will fail an MOT with an ABS error

the garage has told me that when they changed driveshafts first time only one of them had the abs ring fitted.
this probably explains why the abs light came on when i drove away.both shafts now have abs rings on.
would the original fault still show ie do i need to get the ecu cleared,or should it have cleared itself when correct
shafts were re-fitted.

I don't know, but I would have expected the light would go off once the problem was resolved. Might be worth disconnecting the battery for say 30 mins to allow everything to reset. The Bongo has got very basic control systems so I doubt there would be any stored codes to be cleared, but I've no first hand experience.

just been out to compare teeth on abs ring
and low and behold no abs ring.basically garage
have fobbed me off.managed to get abs ring
off old driveshaft using blowtorch and gentle
tap with cold chisel.fingers crossed this will sort
it out.will let you know how things go.many

It's possible the ABS ring the garage 'fitted' cracked & fell off on the journey home. I think a call to Trading Standards might be in order & then give the that garage a wide berth in future. A vehicle is unroadworthy in that condition (based on requirements of an MOT).

They are obligated by law to rectify,if the shafts were replaced by them under duty of care it's their responsibility to rectify as this is a safety issue!

i'll certainly not be going there again,it's the first time iv'e ever used a garage in six years owning bongo
prefer to work on van myself.the way the weather has been lately forced my hand a little bit.thanks again for the support guys.
