Bongo Fury

Only found out this morning, when some idiot cut me up that the horn is not working in the bongo, has been fine of late, checked the fuse...No5 according to the sheet, all is fine, looked under bonnet but couldn't see the horn anywhere,lol you would have thought after 10 years I might have known where it is, nothing in the manual on it and cant find a fact sheet, anyone had a similar problem, any help would be appreciated.

Ah ta nope cant hear a thing will check it out.

A lot of these vehicles have Two horns IE High and Low, near side and offside. The last pair that I replaced had simply disintegrated (rotted)

They are under the headlights - you can just see the round bit under the LH lamp. Some have single, while later have twin units.

How do we get at it then do we have to remove the bumper, hope not rather drastic for a bit of noise even if it's essential.

Bugger, so I didn't need to take the wheels off after all . I upgraded my horn to a pair of these which I had lying around and they sound a but more meaty.

This happened to me last year.

I',m at work so don't have access to me notes & schematics but from memory -

I thought it was fairly staright forward as measurements told me that the power feed to the relay was faulty - however, after fixing a link to another feed still not working.

I eventually worked out that there is a 1 to 2 splice within the main harness - somewhere and this appeared to have failed. So the only solution was to run another wire from the fuse box to the relay.

Works fine now.

I wonder is it the same relay as the headlights, that one went dicky coming home from Centre Parcs in november and to be honest I haven't had occasion to honk at anyone since,lol.

My horn's just packed up too (well, my Bongo's actually) - must be infectious.

I've found the horn, but can someone point me to the relay please. Can't hear one clicking, though the fuse is ok, so I'll have to check voltage at the relay.

To update: I thought I'd need to check the steering wheel connection, and chickened out because of the air-bag. My very helpful local auto-electrician (Ribblesdale Auto Electrics Ltd, Preston, Lancs) discovered a break in the loom, so that the horn relay was getting the feed for the contacts side, but no feed to the coil. Rather than try to sort out the loom, he created a fresh feed with a 5A in-line fuse, and all is now well.

I see above that this problem has occurred in at least one other Bongo.

Yup, sorting looms is last resort, nightmare of a job!
The Horn does tend to be a common problem, not sure why other than its probably the least used circuit and some parts are the most exposed.

On the diagrams I did consider linking every connector to its location diagram, but its a hell of a lot of work, and given that its not that difficult to find once you know the location page follows the schematic page, I opted to put it well down the list! The year 2000+ diagrams are taking my attention at present, but might be a bit longer yet as they have altered slightly the layouts and all the page numbers so every link has to be repositioned & recalculated
