V6 Engine bay/scavinger fan temperature sensor.

It has been suggested in another post that I may have a faulty scavenger fan temprture sensor. I was informed that the genuine Mazda part was 30 quid to buy. So I set about doing some testing the ensure that the fan actually works. I have bridged the sensor to see if the fan would run and what it sounds like. Yes fan ran and sounded OK. Did notice that whilst the sensor was bridged with a wire link that the alternator charge light came on and flashed. I assume that this was some way of showing a fault. Or does it actually flash when the scavenger fan is running to warn that the engine bay is overheating? Any way, I examined the sensor next and found it to be only a 2 wire device. For the more technical out there that makes me think that its going to be a thermister. Do you think my assumption is correct? If so has anyone tried a thermistor as a replacement and if so what value was used? I ask this as thermistors are only about 1.50 to buy. And therefore would be a cheap fix.

Answers on a post card please.

Cheers

The engine manual shows how to test it. Well worth buying one from club shop. The lights flash to show the sensor is faulty/missing.
