Glow plug relay replacement very cheap!

Hi all I have recently had trouble with my glow plug relay which packed in and was draining my battery. After a search online and seeing the extortionate prices these go for I found that a Ford Ranger relay is an exact match for the Mazda Bongo one. Quick trip to my local 4x4 centre with £10 and it runs and starts like a dream. Better than shelling out £80 and a damn sight easier to find than a Bongo one!

What a great tip, and I bet there's plenty more similar if only we knew what they were. Meanwhile where can I order one?

It has always driven me mad that anything with the magic word "Bongo" on it means extortionate prices, it's got the stage where I am now thinking of a change after 10 years, might look for another rare import as the bongo was 10 years ago and hope it's something with easier and cheaper parts, lol.

Part number reads NGK NO. G73SV and is exactly the same even with the same clip for the bracket

As you have found David, there are a number of good suppliers of perfectly serviceable second hand parts at quite reasonable prices. A lot of new parts can still be bought directly from Mazda and when you consider the Bongo is nearly 20 years old and was never intended to be sold outside of Japan, it's not perhaps surprising that sometimes parts can attract a premium.
You have to be prepared to do a bit of research when it comes to buying parts for cars. As an example, a dashboard illumination bulb for my Volvo is £7 from a main dealer, but you can easily find an equivalent bulb for a few pence which can be fitted into the original bulb cap.
