Bongo Fury

Hi all, I have long had a slight issue with cold starting, it always starts off the first turn but runs lumpy as hell and smokes for about 30 seconds or so. The superb Ady (Northern Bongolow) sorted out my cold start valve switch thing which improved things a little but I want to change the glow plugs too. My bongo has the long glow plugs but the only good quality plugs I can find are the short ones. I have heard of people fitting the short ones with a little modification, can anyone point me in the right direction with this? I am fairly competent with a spanner and I know how to get to and remove the old plugs I just need to know how to make the old rail fit.

There have been other threads on this matter but I just gently bent the fuel pipes down a little bit - you can also use spacers to raise the bus bar

Thanks for the advice everyone, tried everywhere to get those little extender pieces to no avail. What I managed to do was keep the little nuts from the old glow plugs and screw them part way down the thread of the new ones and the rail sits on that nicely with plenty of clearance from the fuel pipe, rather than buy a load of washers and stack them up. No more rattle or smoke on cold start up and starts as quick as a petrol car! well chuffed.
