Bongo Fury

Every now and then the sliding door gets a little stiff just before it's fully opened (last few inches) I squirted it with DD40 last time and it was fine but as I have been driving around Manchester, Yorkshire and Bolton all this week in the most horrendous rain, it has gone stiff again. Can anyone suggest either a suitable grease or substance to remedy this or a perminant fix of some sort short of removing the door.

A good clean and a light smear of Water pump Grease should do the trick.

Sorry about my ignorance but what's that?

White litium grease or silicone grease will sort that. Never use WD40 on hinges, rollers etc because it is way too thin and the problem will soon come back (as you have discovered).

One thing to watch with any form of grease is the tendency to accumulate dust & grit which can add to noise & wear. This is especially true on the lower track below the side step which gets covered in a lot of sand etc when climbing in & out of the van. The trick is to clean off all the grease & muck regularly & then re-grease with a very fine film rather than great dollops.

Spray grease is the easiest way to get a nice fine film, without dollops

Hi Guys

I just spoke to the guy selling the pump grease to ask how it would perform in hot tem and cold temp as I do not want it dripping all over when its warm and sticking when its cold. This is what he said

I have just spoken to Millers as operating temperatures are not quoted on their information. They have said that as it's a standard water pump grease, it's very thick and there will not be an issue with it getting to hot an running out. However, as it's so thick, they said it might be a bit too thick for low temperature use. They recommended using a conventional waterproof grease rather than a water pump grease. We don't have a Millers one, but we do have this

UPDATE!

Just bought and paid for it, will let you know later how it performs.

Have used this stuff quite a lot, whatever you use you need to make sure that the runner/guides and rollers are really clean before application.

I think this is the maintenance grease the servicing guys use? If it is it leaves a white residue.

I dont use wd40 on it as it evaporates very quick, I either use a spray grease or some bike super maintenance spray which seems to last ages, I then spray it again after a good wash or long periods of rain..but then again I tend to spray everything when the can comes out,loll./.

You can get it in a grease form in tubs as well
