Faulty Headlights

Hi Folks,
Bongo was out of action for a while (burst bottom hose, now replaced, refilled & bled), and since 'resurrection', I have a problem with my headlights. Sidelights fine, but when on dipped or main beams, I get the 'Main Beam' blue indicator light on on the dashboard, but no actual headlights shining (neither dipped not main) no matter what the position of the multi function stalk!
Any ideas where I should start looking?

Hi
Try the little push -on connector blocks on the back of the bulbs...I've had them go...cheap as chips to get a new connector off e-bay...If it's that, I have a link

Ah ha!
That'll teach me for going directly to relays (not that I could find one for the headlights!), a fettle around with the connectors does, indeed, give me lighting. I'd love that link Helen!

As said.. I had exactly the same problem. Fit new H4 connectors, mine had melted...

He used to do the cheap plastic ones, which I bought, but these are better....ceramic won't be so affected by the heat of the bulb

Interesting, might get some new connectors. I got some
H4 LEDs but they only come on briefly then go out.
Could this be the connectors?

Since someone mentioned LED H4s, I wondered if LED headlamps are viable? It seems the answer is no; but I wonder if anyone has HID headlamps fitted to a Bongo?

I for one cannot see how an LED headlight bulb would be be brighter than an H4 60/55 Halogen bulb ..
I am on scooter Forums and there are a few who have thought the LED bulbs would be brighter than there 35 /35 watt (candles) .. even they where disappointed ..

To close up on this one, parts Helen linked arrived quickly, and were a quick job (< 30 mins) to fit on using crimps. As a part of that job, I ran new Earth cables to both headlamps (from bolts into the nearby bodywork),as it was these which had melted on both connectors. Looking closely, the original earth wire is half the size of the wires carrying current to the bulbs, so no wonder it's heating up really, especially when, for split seconds (when flashing lights, etc), both live feeds are going to be carrying current which that one tiny earth cable needs to be shunting away again. Madness.
