Bongo Fury

It looks like my ignition barrel on my '98 Bongo has given up the ghost. The key will turn all the way but without any resistance and after the 1st position it is not clicking or connecting to anything, feels like it is worn down. Upshot is, I'm having to bypass the barrel and I now start the van with a screwdriver and the key in the 1st position. Not ideal.
Not massively up to speed on the Bongo ignition systems so I'm just looking to find out what my options are here? Money is in short supply but I do feel that I need to get this sorted ASAP.
Living in Glasgow anywhere in the central belt would be easily accessible to me.

If the key will still turn the auxiliary / ignition circuit on .. maybe remove the starter to solenoid wires off the original switch .. and fit them to a a push button type ..???

Don't know if that'll work or not... The only function the key now serves is to open the doors and to stop the steering lock from coming on.

If the fault is with the barrel, you could order a new one to match your existing code. If the fault is with alloy body the barrel rotates in, then you could get one from a breakers. The latter option could be quite expensive as most places will want to sell you a set with all the door locks too.

I think there will be some kind of spring loaded ball bearing arrangement to give the different positions, so you could strip it down & locate the problem.

If you get stuck, I know a man who I could probably get just the ignition lock from for you.

It looks like the actual Switch is the culprit.

I like the sound of the first bit. Could you recommend a place I could order a barrel with my existing code on it?

A spray of silicon spray can work wonders on lock barrels

I expect a main dealer could order a lock to your key number. Personally, I'd buy something like this and either use it as-is, or cannibalise it to repair yours:

So I received the new barrel this week and I'm happy with my purchase.
I just tried to fit the new barrel and I couldn't manage it. For starters (no pun intended) it is an extremely fiddley job and one that I'm not entirely confident about undertaking myself but also I can't see how it is possible to do without removing the steering wheel itself. Considering the wheel has an airbag deployed with explosives in it, there's no danger of me attempting that myself.
I'm going to have to get someone who knows what they're doing to sort it for me. Does anyone have any idea of a garage in the central belt that would be suited to a job like this? I am willing to travel reasonably far to get this resolved...
